Student Motivation

A lot of teachers struggle with how to motivate students toward future career goals.  A lot of students are interested in being athletes, which is great, but then you have to convince them that a backup plan is good to have, in the face of injury or other factors that might prevent them from following that one specific dream.  In my mind, it is really more about being well-rounded.  Even a good athlete needs to understand the basics of business, math, marketing, and communications.  If college is in the plan, there has to be a degree, even if it is athletically balanced.  But if you need to convince a student that if money, not passion is their motivator, this might clear up, that having a back-up plan could really work out for you.  The key, however, is that with both Michael Jordan and Bill Gates, they were able to attain success based on their extreme passion for what they spent their lives perfecting.   So, success is really about finding, and pursuing your passions.  One way or another, that will lead you to the all the riches you could possibly desire.
