I don't actually like to read (books). It is a horrible thing to admit, especially as a former elementary teacher that constantly worked her students on the importance of reading books. But, something I am figuring out in my old age, is that books are ancient technology. I understand that if you want to be a scholar, you read books. But, I'm not interested in the thinking of activities anywhere near how much I am interested in the doing. This morning I read three chapters in a book, 12 website articles, a paper magazine article, and watched two YouTube videos. I have retained most of the non-book sources. I have already used (or tried to use without success) 4 things I found on websites. I know that the book is talking about "smart-talk". I made one or two personal connections, but I haven't gotten to the point yet. Someone convince me why I need to read books, and why it isn't better for me to get the information in ways my brain can actually access it. Oh, and also, how I have managed to be a student continuously for 28 years without shoving a shotgun in my head.
