As a 100K frequent flier, I appreciate that you are finally going to have wi-fi on your flights. But, let me clarify something. It is going to take 3 years to make this happen? Are you aware that Virgin Airlines is flying people to SPACE? How can people be casually traveling outside of the planet, but you can't let me check my email from 30,000 feet? Something seems out of line.
United and Continental begin in-flight Wi-Fi rollout in 2012:
Well, this is great news. Beginning in mid-2012 United and Continental airlines will outfit 300 of their planes with in-flight Wi-Fi in an agreement with Panasonic Avionics Corporation. Panasonic's Ku-band Wi-Fi is special because it will enable both airlines to offer connectivity on international flights, which no other American operator currently has.
While the company expects to have its entire fleet covered by 2015, it will begin with the Airbus A319 and A320 and Boeing 747, 757, 767, 777 and 787 aircraft. This is in addition to United Holding's previous announcement that it would bring satellite Wi-Fi to the more than 200 planes it owns which have DirecTV.
